Application Regulations for 2015-2016 Accreditation Cycle Determined (23.12.2014)

MÜDEK Accreditation Criteria for First Cycle (Undergraduate) Programs Updated (23.12.2014)

MÜDEK Executive Board, in its meeting on 23.12.2014, accepted the amendments on the Criteria for Evaluating First Cycle (Bachelor) Engineering Programs document presented by the Criteria Committee and the updated document is published as Version 2.1 (in Turkish).

Those programs, which will undergo general review in 2015-2016 accreditation cycle, are given an option of choosing between this updated version dated 23.12.2014 and current sürüm 2.0.0 dated 26.12.2008. However, the updated version will be used in all general reviews starting from the 2016-2017 accreditation cycle.

All interim reviews in the 2015-2016 accreditation cycle will be conducted by using version 2.0.0 dated 26.12.2008.

The main differences between the new and versions are listed below:
  • The concept of "complex problem" is clarified in the definitions section and "Realistic constraints and conditions" is now covered in this section.
  • Subcriterion 2.1 of Criterion 2. Program Educational Objectives is simplified. "The requirement on the program educational objectives to be complied with the MÜDEK definition" embedded in this subcriterion is added as a clear item in subcriterion 2.2.
  • For the purpose of conformity to the "graduate attributes" defined by Washington Accord, of which MÜDEK is a signatory, the concept of "Complex problem" is integrated to items (i), (iv) and (v), and  some new dimensions are added to items (vii), (ix) and (x) of the subcriterion 3.1 of Criterion 3.
  • Criterion 10. Discipline Specific Criteria:
    • "Forest and Forest Industry Engineering" criteria accepted as a separate document on 23.07.2012 are integrated to the updated document,
    • Criteria for "Energy Systems Engineering", "Mechatronics Engineering", and "Automotive Engineering" developed by an intense constituent participation 2014 are are integrated to the updated document,
    • Criteria for "Food Engineering" are updated to accommodate feedbacks coming from contituents.
  • Some editorial improvements are introduced in several locations of the document in order to obtain a clearer writing and a better comprehension.

Erbil Payzın, Chair of MÜDEK Executive Board and Timur Doğu, Chair of MÜDEK-MAK attended Assessment Meeting with Agencies Holding Quality Evaluation and Registration Certificate held at the Higher Education Council of Turkey on November 25, 2014 and made a presentation introducing MÜDEK activities.

Next to MÜDEK, representatives of following agencies attended the meeting: Sciences, Arts, Arts-Sciences, Language, History and Geography Faculties Accreditation Association (FEDEK), Turkish Psychologists Association (TPD), Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Educational Institutions and Programs of Veterinary Medicine (VEDEK), Association for evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education (TEPDAD), Architectural Accrediting Board (MİAK), and Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Programs in Education Faculties (EPDAD).
Erbil Payzın and Hamit Serbest Attending ELECO 2014 Meeting (17.11.2014)

Erbil Payzın, Chair of MÜDEK Executive Board and Hamit Serbest, MÜDEK member will attend as invited speakers to ELECO 2014 (Electrical, Electronics, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering Symposium) to be held in Bursa on November 27-29, 2014. In the opening sessions on November 27, 2014, Erbil Payzın, will make a presentation titled Basic Skills Needed to Develop A Successful Product: MÜDEK Program Outcomes and Hamit Serbest will make a presentation titled Electrical Engineers Chamber (EEC) Scientific Journal. CDEFI Delegation Visits MÜDEK (14.11.2014) CDEFI Heyeti Ziyareti

A delegation of the Conference of Deans of French Schools of Engineering (CDEFI) visited MÜDEK on November 14, 2014, Friday, next to their visits to Council of Higher Education (CoHE) and various engineering schools during their stay in Turkey.

The delegation is composed of Christian Lerminiaux (President of CDEFI), Isabelle Schöninger (Director of CDEFI), Matthieu Binder (Deputy Director and International Relations Officer) and Valérie Le Galcher-Baron (Attaché for University and Scientific Cooperation - Embassy of France) is hosted by Erbil Payzın (Chair of MÜDEK Executive Board), Mehmet Demirkol (Vice-Chair of MÜDEK Executive Board), Engin Arıkan (Treasurer Member of MÜDEK Executive Board) and Yavuz Erçil (MÜDEK Secretary General) in MÜDEK Headquarters.

Erbil Payzın made a presentation introducing engineering education in Turkey and MÜDEK during the meeting with the French delegation.

Orhan Alankuş ve Yavuz Erçil Participating in 29. MDK Meeting (15.09.2014)

Orhan Alankuş, MAK vice-chair, and Yavuz Erçil, MÜDEK Secretary General, will be participating as MÜDEK's representatives, in 29. MDK (Engineering Deans Council) meeting to be held in Elazığ by Faculty of Engineering of Fırat University on October 24-25, 2014. Orhan B. Alankuş will be a panelist in the panel titled Developments in the Automotive Sector in Turkey and World: Their Reflections to Engineering Education on October, 2014, and M. Yavuz Erçil will make a presentation titled MÜDEK: General Information and Latest Developments (in Turkish) in another session on the same day in the meeting.
Engin Arıkan Participating EQAR Members' Dialogue Meeting (15.09.2014)  

Engin Arıkan, member of MÜDEK Executive Board, will be participating, as MÜDEK's representative, in "Members' Dialogue" meeting of EQAR (European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education) to be held in Palermo, Italy on October 20-21, 2014.
Experience Sharing Meeting (15.09.2014)

There will be an Experience Sharing Meeting for MÜDEK volunteers in İstanbul on September 27, 2014. At the meeting, participants will be informed about the updates on MÜDEK processes and there will be a Ceremony of Appreciation Plaquettes for those evaluators who have been participated at least evaluations by the 2013-2014 period.

25th Anniversary of Washington Accord Commemorated (04.08.2014)

25th anniversary of Washington Accord, of which MÜDEK is a signatory, was commemorated during the International Engineering Alliance Meeting held in Wellington, New Zealand on June 09-13, 2014.

As a part of the commemoration, a Washington Accord booklet prepared and printed by Washington Accord was distributed to the members. Hu Hanrahan, Chair of Washington Accord, made a presentation about the 25th year during the gala dinner.

The list of programs accredited by MÜDEK for the year 2014 is updated and published as of July 01, 2014.

MAK Members for the 2015-2016 Term (30.06.2014)

According to the item 4.2 of the MÜDEK Operational Regulations, Prof. Dr. Timur Doğu who is currently MAK Chair will take over Past Chair position on January 01, 2015 and Prof. Dr. Orhan B. Alankuş who is currently MAK Vice-Chair will take over MAK Chair position on that date for two years.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Aran (university representative) who is currently at Past Chair position, which is on hold due to his Dean duty, will step down from MAK membership on December 31, 2014.

On the other hand, among current MAK members Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Tanık (university representative) will step down from MAK membership on December 31, 2014 according to the rules since she would be completing her third and last term as a MAK member.

MÜDEK Executive Board, in its meeting on June 23, 2014, decided on six members of MAK, other than Past Chair and Chair, as follows who will serve for two years starting from January 01, 2015, using the recommendations made by the Nominating Board, TMMOB, and KalDer:
  1. The MAK membership of Prof. Dr. A. Bülent Özgüler, who is currently a MAK member representing university, is extended and he is appointed as MAK Vice-Chair for two years as of January 01, 2015. According to our rules, Prof. Dr. A. Bülent Özgüler will take over MAK Chair position as of January 01, 2015.
  2. The MAK membership as TMMOB representative of Prof. Dr. Müfit Gülgeç who is currently a MAK member representing TMMOB is extended for one more term as of January 01, 2015.
  3. The MAK membership as KalDer representative of Aykut Alp Yılmaz who is currently a MAK member representing KalDer is extended for one more term as of January 01, 2015.
  4. The MAK membership of Necat Özgür who is currently a MAK member representing industry is extended for one more term as of January 01, 2015.
  5. As of January 01, 2015, the following two members of MÜDEK are appointed as MAK members to two university representative positions opened upon the termination of MAK memberships of Prof. Dr. Ahmet Aran and Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Tanık.
    1. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Baydere - Faculty member of Computer Engineering Department at Yeditepe University
    2. Prof. Dr. Filiz B. Dilek - Faculty member of Environmental Engineering Department at METU

A Sad Loss - REFİK ÜREYEN (21.01.2014)

Refik Üreyen, a member of our association, passed away on January 20, 2014. Our condolences to his family, friends, and all MÜDEK volunteers.

Refik Üreyen served until 2007 as one of 8 members of the Engineering Evaluation Board formed in 2002 as an independent, non-governmental platform as the initial organization of MÜDEK, was a founding member in MÜDEK's process of becoming an association in 2007, served as the Chair of Provisional Executive Board in 2007, and Chairs of Executive Boards of 1st and 2nd terms in the years 2007-2009 and 2009-2011.
