New Version of MÜDEK Evaluation Criteria Published

After 18 month long efforts and studies, the Evaluation Criteria which has been in use by MÜDEK in
evaluating undergraduate programs since 2003 are updated. The final draft of the criteria submitted
to the MÜDEK Executive Board is discussed in its meeting held on December 28, 2008 and the new version
is accepted. While forming the new version of
MÜDEK
Evaluation Criteria for Undergraduate Programs,
- the issues which are not sufficiently clear and/or open to different interpretations are clarified
as much as possible,
- the consistency with the national framework of qualifications at undergraduate level determined by
(MDK) Engineering Deans Council is secured,
- the consistencies with the EUR-ACE framework standards (first cycle) and program outcomes defined
for undergraduate engineering programs in the Washington Accord context are assured; and
- all views and suggestions on the draft criteria submitted by MÜDEK constituencies are rigorously
taken into account.
New Evaluation
Criteria as of 2009-2010
Evaluation Cycle (26.12.2008)
- New (Version 2.0) evaluation criteria dated December 26, 2008 will
be in effect as of
2009-2010 evaluation cycle.
- However, those institutions with programs to be evaluated as general
review in 2009-2010 evaluation cycle will be given to chose between the
new criteria and the "old criteria" (Version 1.1) dated December 12,
2007 regardless of whether their programs are to be evaluated first time
or because of their due date.
- In interim evaluations of programs, the criteria used in the
previous general review.
Important Dates for 2009 Accreditation Applications
(26.12.2008)
January 31, 2009: The deadline for Higher Education Institutions to submit to MÜDEK a list of programs
for which they intend to apply for accreditation in 2009. Attention: Submissions should be made to MÜDEK
Headquarters by filling the
new application form.
February 28, 2009: The deadline for MÜDEK to inform institutions about the their programs that can be
evaluated in 2009 as well as their accreditation fees and payment schedules.
March 31, 2009: The deadline for institutions to submit their official confirmation letters for their
accreditation applications.
July 31, 2009: The deadline for institutions to submit self assessment reports of the programs that
they applied for accreditation in 2009.
August 31, 2009: The deadline for MÜDEK to inform institutions about the expected conformities of
submitted self assessment reports.
Accreditation Fees for 2009-2010 Evaluation Cycle Determined

Accreditation fees for the 2009-2010 accreditation cycle are determined by MÜDEK Executive Board as follows.
- For each institution 4.600TL + VAT
- For each program (separately for normal and second education programs)
- For general evaluations and interim evaluations with visits 4.600TL + VAT
- For interim evaluation with reports only 1.725TL + VAT

MÜDEK has been conducting an updating study for the evaluation criteria
used for the evaluation of undergraduate engineering programs since
2003 in order to review them for the accommodation of experiences gained
since their onset as well as recent developments in this respect nationally
and internationally. After reaching to a certain maturity, the
draft of new criteria
document is opened to the views of MÜDEK constituents for feedback
before deciding on its final version. The views and suggestions of
constituents will help to an healthy update of MÜDEK Evaluation Criteria.
