Ilker Usta is a researcher who articulated the
theoretical construct of woodlover approach by highlighting the novel
term “woodlover” on the basis of the innovation, and introduced the
concept of woodloverness into the areas of wood science and wood
technology by the complementary explanations with the thematic writings
titled “Depictions on Wood”. Ilker Usta received his BSc degree and MSc
degree in Wood Products Industrial Engineering from Hacettepe University
in Ankara (Turkey) in 1990 and 1993, and earned his PhD in Wood Science
(School of Agriculture and Forestry) from the University of Wales-Bangor
(UK) in 1997.
He has been working in the Department of Wood Products
Industrial Engineering within the School of Vocational Technology at
Hacettepe University since 1990 and has carried out numerous researches
in the field of Wood Physics with the priority of Wood Protection. In
this context, Ilker Usta realized a short-term scientific research
project supported by IRG (International Research Group on Wood
Protection) in 2004 at the Faculty of Forestry (University of Zagreb) in
Zagreb (Croatia), and completed his post-doctoral study supported by MIF
(Matsumae International Foundation) in 2004 at the Institute of Wood
Technology (Akita Prefectural University) in Noshiro City (Japan).
Professor Ilker Usta nowadays gives wood-themed lectures in terms of the
acceptation and internalization of wood (which is a renewable natural
material derived from trees grown through sustainable forestry
activities, and has made a great contribution to the development of
civilization as an important entity that meets the needs and
requirements of people alone or together with other materials throughout
human history) as a valuable object due to its versatility and
functionality (thanks to its anatomical structure, chemical composition,
physical properties, and mechanical properties) within the elective
courses "Educational Wooden Toys" and “Importance of Wood in
Intercultural Interaction” which both were designed as the new courses
in the process of updating the curriculum of the department of Wood
Products Industrial Engineering within the scope of the Bologna Process
in 2013 and were provided to the students of Hacettepe University in the
Elective Courses Unit under the responsibility of the School of
Vocational Technology..
